The official eBay app for Android got an update yesterday that lets users personalize eBay notifications with custom ringtones. What's in this version:

✓ Silence notification sounds while sleeping or at work with the 'Quiet times' setting.
✓ The new streamlined checkout flow makes paying for your items faster and easier than ever.

New HTC One - First look.

Yesterday HTC introduced its new flagship phone, the HTC One, during two events in New York and London. The new device sports a 4.7inch  1080p screen and is powered by a 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 32/64 GB of internal storage. All that supported by a 2300mAH battery.
Software-wise, the device home screen seems to inspire itself from Windows Phone live tile interface. It also looks a lot like the Flipboard app, a popular magazine-like newsreader. The device also boasts an Ultrapixel camera that "redefines how people capture, relive and share their most precious moments. HTC Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets. These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories. It also automatically creates integrated highlight films from each event comprised of Zoes, photos and videos set to music with professionally designed cuts, transitions and effects. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email and other services."
HTC brings the sound experience to a new level on the HTC One with BoomSound. With its two front facing stereo speakers "with a dedicated amplifier and an amazing full HD display that immerses people in music, videos, games and the YouTube™ clips they love. Beats Audio™ integration is enabled across the entire experience for rich, authentic sound whether you’re listening to your favorite music, watching a YouTube video or playing a game."

Learn more about the HTC One in the video and press release after the break.

Tips: Force Android 4.2.2 update onto your Galaxy Nexus.

Android 4.2.2 System Update
It has been a few days now that Google started delivering Android 4.2.2 over-the-air to its series of Nexus devices; phones and tablets. If you own one of those and haven't got the update yet, there is a way you can force your device to download it from Google servers. I did that today on a Galaxy Nexus and it worked. The update file size is 44Mb and will require WiFi to download. The steps below may be different on the other Nexus devices.

  1. From the home screen, swipe down and tap to open Settings. Select Apps under the Device group.
  2. Swipe from right to left until you reach All.
  3. Scroll about half screen down and tap Google Services Framework.
  4. Tap Clear data and OK.
  5. Tap Force stop and OK.
  6. Tap Agree if the Location Consent message box appears.
  7. Tap the Back button twice.
  8. Scroll down to About phone
  9. Tap Check now.
If no update is found, try again later using the same steps.

Change your cover photo right from your Facebook timeline.

Facebook
Facebook
The Facebook app is not yet near perfect, but it is encouraging to see that the team is publishing interesting updates for the app on Android. The latest one that will make your experience slightly more pleasurable is the ability to change your cover photo right from your timeline. A feature that will certainly please those Facebookers who change their cover very often. I'm not one of those, at least not yet. Now that I know I can do this on my phone, that may change.
The update is most likely waiting for you to download in the notification center. If not, go to Google Play Store to download the Facebook app.

What's new:

  • Get more great content faster.
  • Search shows the most relevant mix of people, Tweets and photos.
  • Discover delivers a stream of Tweets, accounts to follow and more. Pull to refresh or scroll to see more.

Camera MX finally gets Touch-to-focus feature.

You would expect every camera app out there to have this feature built in. But it’s not always the case, therefore reminding us that we must not take everything for granted. The folks behind Camera MX have finally added the much needed touch-to-focus feature into the app for devices running Android 4.0 or higher.

The update is part of a patch issued today that also fixes a bug that occurred when Whatsapp interacts with Camera MX. Dates are now included in the exif information of a picture and the look and feel of the grid in the media manager has been improved. And last but not least, the usual bug fixes.

Camera MX is available free on Google Play Store.

Flipboard adds "save image to device" option in new update.

My favorite news reader on Android, Flipboard is a beautiful magazine-like app that works on the phone and tablet. With Flipboard you can just flip through the news like you would do with a paper-based magazine. You can, obviously, connect to your Facebook and Twitter account or your favorite news source.

In its last update, a "save image to device" feature has been added. Tap and hold on any image in Flipboard to save the image to the device gallery. This feature is also available through the sharing menu. The change log also mentions an issue with the retweet button that has been resolved and the install size of the app has been reduced. What's an update without the usual bug fixes. This version does fix "more bug fixes".

Download Flipboard free on Google Play Store.
