Evernote for Android updated with note statistics and camera auto-focus improvements.

I have been slowly gravitating away from Evernote and that move started before they implemented their new terms of service that only allows for the app to run on two devices and you have to go premium to enjoy Evernote across all your devices. I believe this move won't help Evernote gain more adoption when users can and have been migrating to Google Keep for its simplicity or Microsoft OneNote for its robustness. I use the latter on all my devices and have been happy ever since. With that said, let's see what Evernote has for its users in its new update.

Evernote was updated two days ago and it took its time to show on my Samsung. It's finally here with a new feature that gives users count statistics on their notes for words, character, line and paragraph. This is the only new feature.

The team also made some improvements to the camera auto-focus and squashed some bugs.

Scanning and annotation of documents comes to Evernote for Android.

Popular note-taking app Evernote just got better on Android in that users will now be able to easily scan any documents you throw at the apps camera. The latter will automatically determine the documents size, type and calibrates to take the best pic possible. Obviously Evernote will process the image so as to keep the part that is of interest to you and that includes cropping, adjusting contrast "for a clear and crisp digital rendering." Those scanned images are then stored temporarily in the phones gallery. Evernote does not say how long the scanned images remain there, but the app will let you upload the scans you want to Evernote with a simple upward swipe and in the format you choose. And there is more.

Evernote will let you annotate your images. Users will be able to draw on the document and even add text. A feature available for some time already on competing note-taking apps, but its great to see Evernote catch up. These features are available to every users of Evernote, but if you're premium user, there's more in store for you, like the ability to scan business cards and Evernote will pull the information into a business card note and save to the app. Premium subscribers will also be able to annotate PDF files attached to notes.

Evernote updated with three new widgets: Actions Widgets, Action Bar and List widget.

Evernote is a great productivity tool and it just got better on Android, offering new ways to create notes on the home screen using 3 three new widgets. The previous widget was a separate app, while this update, which raises the version to 7.2, integrates the widgets.

Below are the three new widgets that come with the new Evernote:

• Actions widget (1×1) – Need quick access to a note, the camera, or search? Pull your favorite feature out of the app into a single, dedicated icon to just start doing whatever it is you need to do.
• Action bar (4×1) – Select from 11 different actions to create your personal best-of-Evernote functions.
• List widget (4×2) – Shortcuts to key actions of your choosing as well as a list of notes. The source of the notes is up to you. Designate a specific notebook, use recent notes to hop into what you were just editing, or populate it with your reminders to stay on top of to-do’s.

Google Keep now works with Android Wear.

With the current wearable trend, it sounds like we are heading in a future where our beloved devices are destined to remain in our pockets as smart watches take over and fetches the data we consume from our pockets to our wrist. While wearable is still in its infancy, it is nonetheless an exciting technology. Before you ask, I do not have a smart watch and yes I would love to get my hands on one.

Shortly after Google and its partners, LG and Samsung, announced their wearable devices, it was a matter of time before updated apps would take advantage of the new Android Wear OS. Google is gradually updating its own app and today, Google Keep is being blessed with Android Wear support.

Google Keep is a note taking app made by Google that available free in the Play store. Here, I must admit that I have never used it, being very happy with Evernote which has the definite advantage of being a multi-platform app.

With Android Wear support, lucky owners of LG or Samsung's smart watch will be able to create notes and see reminders; view and check off lists right on the watch without taking their phones out of their pocket. I don't feel particularly excited about this. Anyway, the update also includes the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

Evernote for Android updated.

Evernote, The leading and multi platform note taking app has been updated last week with features that will make users happy, especially those who like jotting down notes using their own handwriting. The latter does make taking notes faster than typing or swiping the traditional onscreen keyboards on phones and tablets. Evernote is always pushing out updates to improve my favorite note taking app. See the log below for the new additions and improvements, then follow the link to download the update.

Today's app update: Gmail, Google Search, Evernote, Adobe Reader, Barcode Scanner...

Quite a few updates on my Galaxy Nexus this morning. Two Google apps update are the most noteworthy with Gmail getting the Delete button back as a default. For some reason, the folks at Google thought users had no need of the Delete button to delete their emails.

Evernote for Android gets updated with alarms, notifications.

Evernote for Android got updated with a an interesting feature today. Users will now be able to set alarms in their notes, thus making project tracking easier by setting a due date and get reminded with notifications. There's more. Notes can be ordered manually or by date. And finally, notes can be marked as done.

Evernote for Android is a powerful note app that is free on Google Play Store.

Evernote releases security update after service is hacked.

Evernote has released a security update after its services has been hacked on February 28. The hackers were able to access usernames, email addresses and encrypted passwords. The company, however, was prompt to reassure users that no contents were accessed. And it did not stop there.

All Evernote users will be forced to change their passwords. "While our password encryption measures are robust, we are taking additional steps to ensure that your personal data remains secure.", Evernote posted on its blog. Users accessing the service online, on computers and mobile devices will be required to change their passwords.

Evernote also published an update for Android devices that "addresses a security issue that requires you to reset your password." Of course, I strongly recommend you download this update.

Evernote now supports sketching and annotation.

An update to the popular note taking app was pushed out to Android phones today. And it supports some cool features like the ability to draw and annotate. But the latter features will work only if you have Skitch installed ion your phone. Skitch was recently acquired by Evernote. Simply put, both apps kind of have a link built-in to each other; Not what I would call the best example of integration. Hopefully Evernote will work this out so we don't need to have two apps installed on our phones and bring a better experience to users.

Skitch is an app that lets you draw sketches and annotate images and send them into Evernote. As shown in the picture, both apps have an icon that links to each other. Evernote now has new icon in the form of a square and heart logo that takes you to Skitch. Once in Skitch you can draw or write your note using your own handwriting. When done, tap the now famous elephant icon to save your note into Evernote.

Among other features is the ability to make searches offline; support for slideshow view; shared notebook improvements that let you view the shared notebook right on your phone; ability to save files to the SD card etc.

Check Android market on your phone to download the free update. Also note that you will need to download Skitch to be able to benefit from the additional functionalities. Skitch is also available free on Market.

Evernote 2.0 beta

Windows Phone 7 has OneNote built-in. Android has EverNote in beta on Android Market that you can now download for free. This version of EverNote has been almost entirely re-written and now provides a better interface, made browsing much easier.
