YouTube for Android gets a Dark theme.

Finally, Google has added a dark mode to YouTube, helping to make the app a little easier on the eyes. 

Here's how to enable it:

1. Tap your profile picture at the top right of the screen.
2. Tap settings.
3. Tap general.

Dark theme is the second option on the General page. tap the slider to enable it and voilà!

The dark theme is available in version 13.35.51. Download it in Google play store.

Dailymotion for Android lets you view vertical videos in full-screen mode.

Last week VidMe closed down citing inability to compete against Google and Facebook. That news made the headlines last week and that leaves users with one less option to choose from. No doubt YouTube remains the most dominant video platform on the market. Then, there’s Dailymotion, a French owned video platform that’s still available should you want to join a less crowded video platform.

Dailymotion was updated today, offering Android users the ability to display vertical videos in full-screen mode. The update also brings some small improvements to account management and an improved playlist management that lets you “re-order the videos.”

If you’re a user of Dailymotion on Android, make sure you download the update in Google Play Store. If, on the other hand, you want to experience something other than YouTube, Dailymotion is the way to go.

YouTube for Android gets a new Activity tab with two sub tabs: Shared and Notifications.

I just noticed a new Activity tab has appeared out of nowhere in the YouTube app for Android. The new tab has two 'sub tabs' under it: Shared and Notifications. The former got replaced by the new tab and got relegated to a sub tab. Notifications got promoted from users profile. In the end, it's two features of the YouTube app that are made easily accessible. No more fiddling around to find the channels you follow closely. I'm not sure though if this update is available worldwide. The YouTube app on my other Android device still does not show the Activity tab. Just check it out and with some luck, you may find it there.

Technically, this appears to be change on the server side, so I don't expect an update to appear in Google Play Store. Or maybe it will eventually and I'll keep you posted if it does.

Dailymotion on Android finally gets Chromecast support.

Compared to YouTube’s 1 billion downloads, Dailymotion’s 10 million downloads is measly in comparison. Just so you know, there’s other apps in the store for video lovers and Dailymotion is one of those.

The app has been updated today which finally adds support for Chromecast. Yes, you read that right. It’s been one of the most awaited features and Dailymotion users will finally get to watch their favorite videos on a big screen. I’m not sure that will help increase the number of subscribers though.

YouTube gets a new design, moving the tabs to the bottom.

Today Google has updated YouTube to make it identical to the iOS version by moving the tabs from the top of the app to the bottom, thus making them easily accessible to our thumbs without over-stretching them anymore when using large screen phones. But that is not the only change. The account tab is gone and is replaced by a Library tab which contains the Offline videos, History, My videos, Purchases, Watch later and the videos users liked. Google also got rid of the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen that gave access to the app settings among other things. All these are now behind the users account icon or avatar alongside the search, camera and - if you own one - Chromecast icon.

Besides the similarity in design with YouTube for the iPhone/iPad, YouTube for Android makes the top of the app look thinner and cleaner, and the tabs more accessible on big phones. The update is gradually rolling out, so be patient if you do not see it yet.

Viber for Android now lets you watch YouTube videos in-chat.

Users of Viber for Android are in for a treat in the last update as they will be able preview and view YouTube videos in a chat message. While this update is nothing major, it's more like Viber catching up with competition from WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. So when Viber users will receive a link to a YouTube video, Viber will show a preview of the video and users will get all the options to play, pause, forward or rewind the video within the app.

Another addition to Viber is the ability to know whenViber "contacts were last seen online." Of course, like any updates, Viber also gets some bug fixes and improvements.

Insert videos in Google Slides from Google drive and YouTube.

Today, Google made it possible to insert videos in presentations from Google Drive and YouTube. After inserting the videos in Google Slides, users will have the option to choose when to start or end the video; whether the video should auto-play when presenting. Additionally, users will also have the option to mute or play the video with audio by doing right-click on the video and choosing Video options. 

Inserted videos can be played both on the web or a mobile device. However, inserting videos to Google Slides is only supported on the web. For those viewing the presentation and do not have permission to view the embedded video, can always request request access.

Double-tap YouTube videos to rewind or skip forward 10 seconds.

YouTube app for Android just made it easier for users to skip forward and backward 10 seconds by double-tapping on the left and right sides of the video player. A most welcome feature. Currently, tapping a video will allow it to either pause or to literally skip to the previous or next video in the queue. Of course, this feature is still there in the app, hence the need to double tap on the sides of the video player to skip 10 seconds.

Youtube for Android receives new tab design and in-app editing tool.

Youtube for Android has been redesigned with three tabs: Home, Subscription and Account. This new layout makes it easier to navigate the app and discover new content.

The Home tab will display your recommended videos. The Subscription tab will list the video channels you subscribed to and the account tab will give you access to your account, video history, playlists etc.

Finally the update also include a built-in video editing tool. Update Youtube in Google Play Store.

YouTube Gets autocorrection of search mispellings.

In an update posted today in Google Play store, YouTube received two new features and the same amount of fixes. The first new feature as listed in the store is the ability for YouTube to autocorrect search misspellings. The second feature  is a video quality selector to choose between different resolutions; very useful when you have a slow connection.

On the fixes front, the voice search issue is now resolved. Finally, YouTube gets the "many other bug fixes and improvements" treatment.
