Flipboard on Android won't play videos with sound unless you explicitly want it to.

Flipboard published a big update a few weeks ago and today, they're issuing a fix to a problem related to how videos are played in the app. Based on users feedback, Flipboard now will not auto-play videos with sound unless users actually tap to open and view the video. The videos in your feed will remain silent otherwise. So Flipboard users will enjoy the same experience as in apps like Twitter or Facebook where the videos will play without sound until you tap on them again.

A very welcome feature that has started rolling out in Google Play Store for you to download.

New Discover Carousel added to Flipboard for Android.

Flipboard, the popular magazine-format mobile app for Android has been updated with a new Discover Carousel that will let users easily "explore editorially chosen packages about important stories and issues." The Discover Carousel can be found in the search tab. Flipboard also added another feature in this update that surfaces all community comments on an article throughout Flipboard.

Flipboard adds contextual help buttons in its Settings for better support to users.

Every news app strives to bring a personal experience to its users and few are successful in my opinion. My favorite is Flipboard, a multi-platform news reader that offers that unique flipping gesture mimicking the real world gesture when reading a magazine and offering contents like articles, videos, podcasts, and, of course, social media. 

Flipboard was recently updated with some minor but helpful features. Those improvements are in the settings menu where contextual buttons were added to provide details and support to users should they need it without leaving the app. Flipboard did not add anything else.

Flipboard for Android gets leaner and faster at loading images.

Flipboard fans can enjoy an update today of their favorite digital magazine which does not introduce anything new, but is rather a few improvements and fixes. After installing this update you should notice an improvement in image loading speed. The folks behind Flipboard also reduced the app memory usage making it "leaner". Finally, for those who use Tumblr and linked their account to Flipboard, an issue with image loading has been fixed.

Flipboard to lure new users via sharing to Facebook Messenger.

Flipboard just made it easier to share articles to Facebook Messenger on Android and iOS. According to them, "readers love sharing articles to Facebook Messenger" and it was possible to do that before this update, but Flipboard decided to enhance the experience between Flipboard itself and Facebook Messenger.

The current version of the popular flipping news reader does let you share articles to Facebook Messenger, but your friend only receives a link. This update improves on that by bringing some visuals to it and lure non Flipboard users to download and use the app. 

Once you share an article and your friend opens it in Messenger, they will be taken straight to the article in Flipboard. If Flipboard is not installed, they will be prompted to download it and then share the article. A great way to attract new customers. Flipboard also says that "opening an article from Messenger also unlocks a small new share icon in Flipboard to make it easier to continue the conversation with your friend and quickly share stories back."

Now you can proceed to Google Play Store to update Flipboard on your device and help them get more users by sharing your articles.

Feedly update adds Chrome Custom Tabs and Shared Collections.

Back in May, during Google I/O, Google introduced Chrome Custom Tab. Before the release of Chrome Tab, most apps used their own in-app browser or offered users the choice of browsers they had installed on their Android devices. But Google has other plans with its own browser, Chrome. With the custom tab, Google wants to make Chrome the default browser. Basically, developers can integrate Chrome Custom Tabs in their app and the latter will open when a link is clicked and will even adopt the apps theme color.  And Feedly is among those apps that uses Chrome Custom Tabs.

Feedly, the popular Android news reader picked an update today and integrates Chrome Custom Tab for a more integrated experience.

Feedly also introduces shared collections, a new way to share  your favorite sites with other Feedly users. With shared collections, you actually build your own community. There's more about shared collections which you can read about on  Feedly blog.

Flipboard for Android gets new compose icon.

Flipboard is a news app you should consider to aggregate your news if it is not already the case. You start by following some topics and Flipboard will use your preferences to create your personal magazine. News aggregator apps are aplenty in the Play store and Flipboard distinguishes itself from the pack with its distinctive flipping gesture, giving users the feel of a magazine plus the collaboration and sharing options. 

Flipboard has been updated today with the addition of a compose icon which looks like a pencil to "highlight text from stories, or posting your own text or images in your magazines". This update brings the app version to 3.3.5.

Flipboard lets anyone create private groups to share magazines with friends, family and co-workers.

In an update posted this week, Flipboard now lets users create magazines and share it with friends, family and co-workers and keeping the groups private. Before the update, magazines creation were mostly personal while letting you share articles via social networks. I have not installed the update yet, but I assume the notion of groups will allow interaction between the members with each contributing their own topics.

This update also brings Twitter integration. Members of the popular micro-blogging service will be able to create a Flipboard account simply by using their Twitter credentials. The @mention is also supported thus making it possible to mention friends in flip captions and in comments.

Flipboard for Android now serves top stories in widget.

Flipboard is my favorite news magazine on Android. Unlike other numerous news apps in Google Play store, Flipboard has that distinctive feature that lets you flip through your news like you naturally do with a paper-based magazine. Of course there is more to Flipboard than the flip.

Flipboard was updated with top stories now showing in the Flipboard widget. You need to sign up for a Flipboard account to see a selection of stories you can pick from. The latest version version also brings along the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.
